Yercaud is a hill station located in Salem district of Tamil Nadu. It is 230 km from Bangalore. It is situated in Shevaroy range of hills in Eastern Ghats. It is often called as Poorman’s Ooty. It offers great weekend trip from Bangalore with its picturesque sceneries, winding roads, beautiful lake.

What to see

Emerald lake: It is located in the centre of the hill station surrounded by hills with landscape garden, deer park and hotels. It has boating facility with peddling boats at reasonable prices.

Anna park: It is located next to the lake with landscaped areas, childrens play area and Japanese park.

Deer park: It is located near the lake which has some deer, birds like peacock and swans.

Arther’s seat: It is a view point from which we can see entire lake and its surroundings, Yercaud town.

Orchidarium: It is a must see place run by Botanical Survey of India. It has vast varieties of natively available orchids. You can see one of the rarest insect eating orchid Ladies Slipper here.

Lady’s Seat: Around 2 km from town this is view point with cluster of rocks on the edge of the hill from where we can see panoramic views of the landscapes down below. There is a mini park near that area. Paid telescopes are there to see the landscapes.

Kiliyur Falls: It is 3 km from Yercaud town and a must see place. Monsoon season is best time to see this 300 ft water fall.

There are other places like Bear’s hill, Heaven’s Ledge, Tipperary view point, Montfort School which are good places to see.
