World’s first handheld mobile phone was manufactured by Motorola in 1973. Prior to that mobile phones were bulky and used to be in cars and other vehicles. The first mobile telephone call made by Martin Cooper who is a researcher and executive at Motorola on April 3, 1973 to rival telecom company Bell Labs executive Dr. Joel S Engel.
The mobile phone Dr. Cooper used to place a call was a prototype weighing 1.1 kg. It is 23 cm long, 4.45 cm wide and 13 cm deep. It was having talk time of 30 minutes and takes 10 hours for full charge.
