Three Gorges dam in China is the largest dam in the world. It is also largest power station in the world producing 22,500 mega watts of electricity. It was built across Yangtze river in Hubei province, China.

Construction of the dam started in 1994 and completed in 2003, but it became fully functional in 2012. Total cost of the dam was US $ 27 billion. For the construction of the dam Chinese government displaced 1.3 million people.

It has a length of 2,335 m and height of 181 m. Ships can go through the dam with the help of ship locks.
