HALLELUJAH MOUNTAINS – MOUNTAINS WHICH INSPIRED AVATAR FLOATING MOUNTAINS

Hallelujah Mountains are located in Zhangjiajie National Park Forest in Hunan Province in China. It’s unique for its pillar like mountains. These mountains are inspiration behind floating mountains of Avatar movie.

Location

Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is part of larger Wulingyuvan Scenic Area which is recognized by UNESCO as World Heritage Site in 1992. The geographic features of the park are pillar like formations throughout the park. They are formed by constant weathering of rocks, physical erosion by expanding winter ice.

The park is spread out around 12000 acres. Wulingyuvan Scenic area of which the park is a part is spread around 400 sq km.

In the park one quartz-sandstone pillar which is 1080m in height has been named Avatar Hallelujah Mountain Officially by Chinese authorities in honor of the Avatar film.

After the film the influx of tourists to the park increased many times. The Chinese government is taking care to preserve the park and its scenic surroundings.
