Introduction

Coorg is a District in Karnataka and Madikeri is its headquarters. It is located in Western Ghats bordering with Kerala. The region is full of lush green hills, forests, coffee plantations. Coorg is also called as India’s coffee bowl. Due to hill terrain it can be accessed by road only. The region’s elevation is from 900 m to 1750 m above sea level. The native people are called Kodava and their language is also Kodava. They have different culture, customs and dressing, they are mainly warriors.

What to See

Abbey Falls

Abbey waterfalls is 8 km from Madikeri town. From the main road the path to the falls goes through forest which is very beautiful with all the sounds of birds, full of green plants and trees. Bathing is prohibited in the falls. There is a hanging bridge in front of falls from there we can see the scenic beauty of the falls.

Talakaveri

Talakaveri is originating place of river Kaveri. It is around 48 km from Madikeri. It is a sacred place for hindu worshippers and have two temples of Lord Shiva and Ganesha. There is one pond called Brahma kundike, from there river Kaveri originates.There is Brahmagiri hill which is good for seeing surroundings from its peak.

Madikeri Fort

Built in 19th century by Tipu Sultan on an elevated area which gives good view of Madikeri. It houses government offices, a temple, museum, chapel and small prison.

Raja’s seat

Sitting on edge of a hill Raja’s seat offers beautiful sunset as well as sunrise and the scenic beauty of surrounding hills.

Bhagamandala

It is 39 km from Madikeri also called as Triveni Sangama meaning a place where three rivers meet. The three rivers are Kaveri, Kannike and sub-terrainian Sujyoti.

Nagarhole National Park

It is located 50 km from Mysore which is a Tiger reserve. Elephants, bears, leopards, bisons, sambars are also can be seen.

Bylakuppe

Buddhist Monastery which is must see on the way to Mysore from Madikeri. Surrounding areas are settlements of Tibetan Buddhists.

Dubare Elephant Camp

On the banks of river Kaveri it is a camp for capturing wild elephants and training. We can see elephants lifting log woods, elephant bathing and elephant rides.
